Health problems caused by Hurricanes

In recent study by the Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University and the Children’s Health Fund it has been found that there is a link between metal health problems and other effects directly after 2005 hurricanes that hit the Gulf Coast in the States.

By studying the records of the schools, data from the federal census and FEMA, they were able to determine that around 1,250 families had been displaced because of the storms. This included 163,000 children, or which 81,000 to 95,000 returned, but between 46,600 to 64,900 of these children have been suffering with some type of health problem.

The problems that are affecting these children are depression, anxiety and behaviour disorders, but at the moment there are still over 11,000 children still living in temporary accommodation.
