PS3 used in Bio research

For anyone who was familiar with the SETI at home program where PCs down loaded a small program which searched for stars, with this program the principle is the same but wit a PS3. This is PS3GRID and any PS3 user can allow the program to use the system when it is not in use.

The work that it will be dong is going to be working out enzyme reactions and ion conductivity for the bio researchers at the Research Unit on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB) at the Instituto Municipal de Investigación Médica and the Universidad Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain.

It is estimated that there are around three millions PS3’s around, if they were all combined that would be enough computing power to be equivalent to a super computer so there you can see how import this can be to science.
