Creating Living Microfibers

Scientists at the University College London have managed to create living microfibers; the purpose behind this is to use these as a way to promote the regrowth of living tissue, the applications of which could be long reaching.

Mechanical engineers Suwan Jayasinghe and Sumathy Arumuganathar of University College London have developed a way to spin the threads without using the electrical charge that was originally used as this could damage the cells. By spinning, this creates pressure which is then used to form the threads.

What is fantastic about this idea is that the threads can be used to form new skin, or even new organs. The potential for something like this is unbelievable as it could change many sick people’s lives forever.
