Biomed fabric tested in Iraq
A revolutionary product developed by the Carolina Narrow Fabric Co and the Entegrion, Biomedical group, utilises the properties of bamboo and glass fibres and is woven into a fabric to produce a low cost dressing.
The product which has been named “Stasilon” has been approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and is now being field tested in the battlefields of Iraq by the US military, and in several hospitals in the North Carolina area.
The purpose of the product is to help blood clot, and there is a link between glass and blood clotting. This has been known for years, but this product is one of the first of its kinds to have a practical use. It is a dressing for wounds, but it works better than other products and can make a difference to a wounded soldier in field, while they wait for medical help.
