A new may of doing CPR
For years it seems that there was only one way of carrying out Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation or CPR as we have come to know it as. Yet there are some problems with this, one is the danger of breaking ribs by pushing down too hard, but if you do not use enough force the patient is likely to die. The other is the possibility of getting cross contamination by breathing into the patients mouth etc, this has never been one the most healthiest things to be doing anyway.
But there may be another way of saving patients but without having to take any chances like those above. Being developed by Leslie Geddes from the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University.
The new way is called Only Rhythmic Abdominal Compression or OAC-CPR; this means using abdominal compressions, which will increase the blood flow by 25% with out any of the other problems.
