New treatment for HIV
Millions of people worldwide could be set to benefit from a new treatment of HIV. Research undertaken jointly by the University of New South Wales’ (UNSW) National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research (NCHECR) has shown that Raltegravir a new drug has had some good results in tests.
What this drug does is actually cut back the levels of the virus, which is in the bloodstream. In fact, the research has shown in some cases a reduction of up to sixty two per cent. This is truly remarkable, and offers a real sense of hope for sufferers of this disease.
The drug will initially be used in developed countries, which is not very good news for the places that really need it, although price is going to be a factor in whether or not this is going to be available to the poorest people in the world.
