Bio medical specialist struck off
A bio medical scientist has been struck off the Health Care Professionals (HPC) register for issuing the wrong blood to patient at the District General Hospital, East Sussex Health Trust. Wai Ling Wong was found by a panel to have not carried out standard operating procedures, which resulted in the wrong type of blood being given to a patient.
Not only that, but she had tried to cover the mistake by disposing of the records in the confidential waste bin. She was also found to have failed to follow the correct procedures on a further six occasions while working alone.
Her actions could have potentially been fatal for the patients concerned and because of the deceit in trying to cover up her mistakes, she was found guilty of a serious breach of professional standards, which has resulted in her being struck off.
