Sea winds are a health hazard

There is nothing like walking along the beach taking the sea breeze as travels unhindered across the sea, which is what many people feel like when they visit the beach. But the reality is somewhat different to the dream, as researchers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Earth System Research Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado, USA, have found out.

It seems that the sea breeze may not be a fresh and healthy as we all might expect, in fact in some cases it can be seriously dangerous to people’s health. It’s the mix of fumes from ships; smoke from the mainland and of course sea salt that creates a chemical reaction to form ozone smog.

All of this and the fact that people tend to go down to the beach and sea front for a bit sun and sea air, the first thing that they do when they get there is to take a deep breath of the good sea air. The chemicals and other nasty particles are then taken right down into the lungs where they can do some real serious damage.
