Mobile phones changes proteins

There has been much written about the possible side effects of using mobile phones, some evidence seems to state that they can cause health problems, while other say that there is no risk. Yet millions of people continue to use a mobile phone and so the research continues too. In Finland a research team have been looking into the effects of mobile phone use and have come up with some evidence that mobile phones do indeed cause health issues.

The Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) have been studying the effects of mobile radiation and have found that there is link between this and an alteration in the expression of protein. It may only be a small change, but never the less it is a change and therefore if this can be shown to be true, then mobile phones do have an affect on the human body.

The research was conducted by exposing skin on the arm to a GSM signal for one hour; afterwards a biopsy was taken from the expose area and an area that was not exposed. It was then found that out of 580 proteins there were eight that were significantly changed. Clearly this is too early to jump to any conclusions, but the mobile phone and health question is far from over.
